Dihexa, or N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6) aminohexanoic amide, first known PNB-0408, is a novel nootropic compound and experimental drug that has been developed for possible treatment of trauma-based brain disorders and neurodegenerative conditions (i.e., Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s) that would compensate for arisen cognitive deficits through increased synaptogenesis.

It is an oligopeptide (small peptide) drug derived from angiotensin IV that binds with high affinity to hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), a neurotrophic agent in many brain regions, and potentiates its activity at its receptor, c-Met.

Studies in rats have shown its enormous potency as a neurotrophic agent, being up to ten million times stronger than BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor). Furthermore, dihexa possess neuroprotective properties, as other animal studies have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects of the drug.

Since this substance hasn’t been tested in humans, caution is advised when handling this extremely potent nootropic.

Benefits of taking dihexa

  • increased mental endurance;
  • enhanced perception and awareness of surroundings;
  • improved short- and long-term memory;
  • amelioration of depressive symptoms;
  • increased verbal fluency;
  • boost in creativity and problem-solving skills;
  • heightened social intuition and enhanced social skills;
  • increased processing speed and improved reaction time;
  • better focus;
  • increased learning capacity;
  • lessened anxiety.

Side effects

Due to extreme neuroplasticity potential enabled by dihexa, some of its benefits and adverse effects are likely to depend on the user’s lifestyle and circumstances over the course of supplementation.

  • headaches;
  • nausea;
  • dizziness;
  • insomnia;
  • water retention;
  • attention deficit from prolonged use;
  • increased severity or development of autistic-like symptoms;
  • strengthening of habits, including bad ones;

There are concerns that while dihexa itself might not be carcinogenic, it might accelerate the growth of pre-existing cancer.

Dosage

Dihexa can be taken orally, via nasal spray or subcutaneous injection.

Oral ingestion is the most popular route of administration for dihexa, with the average ranges of dosage between 8 and 45 milligrams per day in a single dose, with or without food.
