Fasoracetam to improve cognitive function

Fasoracetam is a new drug under study from the racetam family, along with oxyracetam, aniracetam and sunifiram. It has so far been studied as a drug for senile dementia. However, its hopes have not been confirmed.

It is currently being studied for reducing symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Fasoracetam was discovered by Japanese researchers. Clinical trials failed to meet expectations, so the patent rights were sold to the Americans, who are still testing the substance.

However, even in the case of ADHD, it seems that it may only be effective in a small number of cases. The potential effectiveness only applies to people with the mGluR gene mutation. Only 10% of people with ADHD have this particular mutation. How does fasoracetam affect these individuals? This is not clear, as with many other drugs. Researchers conducting the study have only suspicions, while strong evidence is lacking.

As with other new nootropics, fasoracetam is also being tested on its own by people who are looking to improve their cognitive function. What has been found among the benefits described by users are:

  • Improved memory;
  • better sleep;
  • relief of anxiety and depression;
  • and easing withdrawal symptoms from other medications.‍

This last property is particularly interesting. Withdrawal from certain medications can sometimes be a big problem for those taking them. Especially for those who take them for a long time – several months or longer. The reduction in discomfort when reducing doses of benzodiazepines or Pregabalin is potentially noteworthy.

Also, alcohol abusers will be interested in this if they decide to get rid of their addiction. Alcohol is one of the most addictive drugs, along with heroin, cocaine and benzodiazepines.

All the more detailed information from the Internet that we can find for the most part comes from anecdotal evidence or free interpretation of available scientific studies.
