The effect of Selank
Selank was created by combining a peptide called tuftsin with other molecules that improve its molecular stability.
Anxiety
In studies, both tuftsin and Selank were found to reduce anxiety and increase serotonin levels in rats, with Selank being more effective than tuftsin.
Selank is approved in Russia for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and for use as a nootropic agent.
Selank works in part by stabilizing enkephalins in the blood. Enkephalins are natural peptides in the body that likely counteract the stress response. However, this is only a hypothesis. Not all studies can confirm it. According to another hypothesis, Selank binds to GABA receptors. In general, substances that bind to GABA receptors have a calming effect and an inhibiting effect on the CNS.
According to previous human studies involving both anxiety disorder sufferers and non-sufferers, Selank has shown positive effects. A decrease in anxiety symptoms was observed, especially in people who have suffered from this type of disorder for a long time.
Learning
Although studies related to Selank’s effects on learning are scarce, it can be concluded that Selank positively affects this process. In one study, three days of administration of the drug was enough to observe the effects of faster learning in rats.
Memory
Studies have been conducted on animals, including rats and monkeys, on the storage of events in memory. It can be concluded from these that Selank improves memory. However, there are no data from studies on humans and the effects of this drug on human memory. There is only anecdotal proof from users who use the drug on their own.
Depression
Selank clearly reduces symptoms of depression. In addition, smaller doses of the drug appeared to work better than larger doses.
Weight loss and cholesterol
A very interesting study involved feeding rats a fat-laden food. Compared to a control group, also fed such food, the rats that received Selank had less weight gain. And that was by 35%! In addition, cholesterol levels decreased by 58% in these rats. Blood glucose levels also decreased by 23.5%.
