What is Pramiracetam?

This drug is a powerful nootropic drug that positively affects the effectiveness of learning. It improves concentration, enhances memory, improves logical thinking capabilities and increases cognitive abilities.

Pramiracetam brings these benefits without the effect of lowering mood and increasing irritability or anxiety. This is pramiracetam’s advantage over most stimulants such as amphetamine or methylphenidate.

Pramiracetam is a nootropic drug, a mild stimulant and a member of the numerous racetam family, along with Piracetam, Coluracetam, Oxiracetam, and others.

Unlike many other racetams, Pramiracetam exerts an enhancing effect on cognitive function without altering mood or levels of anxiety or irritability. This is due, at least in part, to its ability to affect acetylcholine levels in the brain. Pramiracetam increases high-affinity choline uptake (HACU), which allows the brain to produce more acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is known to play an important role in memory and learning.

Pramiracetam does not have a high affinity for serotonin, dopamine, GABA or norepinephrine receptors located in the brain.

In Europe, Pramiracetam is an official prescription drug in some countries. It is sold under the brand name Pramistar and is used to treat memory and attention problems in elderly people with dementia. Pramiracetam was discovered in the late 1970s.
